Overview

Warminster School, founded in 1707, is located in a peaceful and attractive rural setting in the town of Warminster, under 2 hours from London by train and within easy reach of Bath, Bristol and Salisbury. It is a beautiful school, but schools are not, first and foremost, about buildings and facilities but about people and relationships – Warminster is known for its wonderful family atmosphere and as a place where individuality is encouraged to flourish.

Program

Academic

Every child is encouraged to aspire academically and fulfil their potential, but they are also challenged to develop intellectual curiosity and lively minds. 23 subjects are offered at A Level, which is taught alongside the IB Diploma, epitomising the holistic approach to education for which Warminster School is well known. Pupils meet their personal tutors twice daily in small groups, and facilities include the state of the art Wessex Science Centre with its individually designed labs.

Boarding

Boarders in each of the five houses are cared for by houseparents who live on site with their families, supported by experienced pastoral teams including residential tutors. Together they provide a homely and supportive environment which encourages academic study and provides personal space to unwind at the end of a busy day. Weekends are busy with 70+ clubs and societies and trips organised for all, from paintballing to airhop!

Sports

The School strongly believes that sport is a key component of an all-round education – from encouraging fitness and a healthy lifestyle to teaching teamwork, commitment, responsibility and leadership. All pupils are given the opportunity to represent the School, and whether this is in the 1st or 4th team their contribution is acknowledged and celebrated. For elite athletes there are bespoke WASP development programmes, and facilities include an all-weather pitch and an outdoor swimming pool for the summer.

Creative arts

The annual show held in a local theatre is just one of 40+ performances a year, recently including Phantom of the Opera and The Madness of King George, whilst the inter-house drama competition fosters competitive spirit across the school. A computer suite, a green room and a photography room enhance the Art department whilst the Design Centre boasts laser cutters and a 3D printer. The state of the art Thomas Arnold Hall is an excellent concert space for the wide range of musical ensembles.
