Program

Academic

Teaching staff at Rye St Antony focus on individual strengths, ensuring inclusive and confident learning. A broad curriculum appeals to a wide variety of interests and abilities, with over 20 subjects offered at GCSE and A-Level, as well as courses in BTEC Business Studies, the EPQ and Leith’s Certificate in Food & Wine. The core subjects of English and Maths are taught in purpose-built facilities, with Science having 4 dedicated laboratories. On average 61% of A-Level results are A*/B.

Boarding

Rye offers a caring boarding atmosphere where each girl is treated as an individual and lifelong friendships are formed. The 2 boarding houses are run by experienced housemistresses: a traditional house in Years 5-10 and a modern Sixth Form Centre with individual study bedrooms for Years 11-13. Importance is placed on pastoral care and well-being, with a mentor assigned to each pupil. Girls enjoy a full programme of activities including baking, crafts, shopping and cultural visits.

Sports

The girls are encouraged to participate and work hard in sport through the school’s philosophy of enjoyment. They regularly compete in local fixtures and county championships in the traditional curricular sports such as hockey, netball and tennis, which are complemented by clubs and activities including ballet, judo and self-defence. Modern facilities include a large sports hall with badminton courts and a fitness suite, an all-weather pitch, tennis and netball courts and a swimming pool.

Creative arts

The Arts are celebrated through whole-school drama productions and a range of musical ensembles including choirs, orchestras and chamber groups. Many girls take music lessons and are regularly entered for external ABRSM and LAMDA examinations. Facilities include a 600-seat theatre with a full-size stage and lighting equipment, a purpose-built drama studio and music rooms with Sibelius software. Art and design studios are superbly equipped for fine art, textile design, photography and pottery.

Did you know?
  • The School is named after the Church of St Antony in Rye, Sussex. It is unique as a Catholic girls' school founded by lay women, rather than a religious order.
  • Each girl is given a tangerine at the end of Michaelmas term, during the 'Tangerine Party'. The tradition dates from World War II, when gifts of fruit were donated to pupils.
