With around 20 subjects offered at GCSE and A Level the School’s curriculum provides a strong academic foundation and inspires the girls to become independent thinkers. Teaching staff excel at nurturing individual strengths and academic performance is strong. Typically 79% of pupils achieve A*/B at A Level with Maths, Further Maths and the Performing Arts particular strengths. On average 60% go on to Russell Group universities, a third bucking current trends by studying Maths or Sciences.
Following a £9 million redevelopment the 4 main boarding houses offer stylish single and shared study bedrooms alongside areas to study, relax and socialise, whilst older pupils enjoy a dedicated Sixth Form house. A ‘Buddy’ system helps new arrivals fit in and wide-ranging interhouse competition along with full integration of day pupils fosters house spirit. Evenings brim with supervised prep and sports or games, whilst weekend fun includes visits to London, windsurfing and pottery-painting.
With a belief that ‘sport is for everyone’ and a passion for sporting prowess Roedean has a busy sporting fixture list and runs a dedicated programme for Sports scholars, with many girls performing at county or national level. Passionate staff encourage all girls to get involved whether in traditional team sports or extra-curricular activities such as zumba, street-dance or martial arts. State-of-the-art facilities include a golf-course, an indoor swimming pool, dance studios and sports pitches.
Roedean offers a broad GCSE and A Level offering in the Arts alongside extra-curricular activities. Artists, encouraged to develop their own interests, enjoy the natural light from the Art room’s partially glazed roof. Each year the 320-seat theatre hosts 3 drama productions, as well as a range of annual house festivals and regular concerts by orchestras, choirs, and ensembles. Specialist music, LAMDA and dance tuition is given, whilst pupils also perform at the Brighton Fringe Festival.
