As the UK’s only all-girls Quaker school, The Mount offers a unique environment to educate and inspire young women. Dating back to the 18th century, the School combines beautiful architecture with modern facilities set in 16 acres of grounds just a 10 minute walk from the historic centre of York. The Quaker ethos at the heart of the School places an emphasis on respect, tolerance and care – the girls are encouraged to aim high, but also to become considerate, confident and well-balanced individuals.

The Mount offers a diverse curriculum with around 20 GCSE and A Level options, whilst the enrichment programme heightens awareness of community and global affairs. Equal value is placed on all subjects and small class sizes ensure the girls receive individual attention whilst personal tutors monitor their welfare, academic progress and extracurricular activities. On average three quarters of A Level candidates achieve A*/B and around two-thirds of leavers go on to Russell Group Universities.
Year groups and nationalities come together as a vibrant community in the homely boarding house, led by a housemistress with a resident assistant and a team of tutors. The house has lots of communal space whilst the bedrooms, each shared between 2 or 4 girls, are intended as places to relax. In the evenings, boarders have supervised prep and full access to school facilities, whilst the weekends buzz with planned excursions and activities such as baking, art and swimming.
A genuine enthusiasm for sport is encouraged and, with no Saturday school and a regular programme of fixtures, the girls can explore their sporting talents to the full. The offering ranges from traditional team sports such as Hockey and Netball to Fencing, Judo, Dance and Cross-Country. GCSE and A Level PE courses are offered whilst the facilities include Tennis and Netball courts, grass Hockey pitches, an indoor Swimming pool, a gymnasium and a sports hall with a fitness suite.
A full calendar of productions, concerts, recitals and workshops is staged across performance spaces including the School Hall and the Drama studio. Academic Drama and LAMDA examinations are popular whilst almost half of pupils learn an instrument in the specialist Music building, joining orchestras, choirs and ensembles. The purpose-built Art Department’s offering ranges from sculpture to textiles and jewellery-making, enriched with exhibitions and trips to local and national galleries.
