Program

Academic

Malvern has a strong academic focus and the academic programme is broad, challenging and rewarding: GCSE/iGCSEs, A levels and the IB Diploma are all offered. Classwork is complemented by a programme of educational visits and independent learning is encouraged. The College supports or stretches pupils according to their abilities, whilst a robust pastoral network underpins academic progress. There is a strong tutor system and pupils in the Sixth Form are able to choose their own tutor.

Boarding

Boarding houses are run by a housemaster or housemistress, and together with the house staff and each pupil’s tutor they provide the exceptional pastoral support that is central to Malvern’s ethos. Each house has its own dining room where the pupils eat together and this reinforces the family atmosphere. 80% of pupils are full boarders and the house is therefore full at weekends. House life is extremely important and it is here that friendships are often forged for life.

Sports

The College has impressive facilities for sport and has built a brand new sports complex. There is a long tradition in rackets and an established reputation for cricket. In addition to the main sports listed, Malvern offers fives, badminton, cross-country, basketball, swimming and shooting. Professional coaches support the sports teaching staff in training pupils for school, county and national performances, and there are realisable pathways to professional sport.

Creative arts

In Art pupils specialise in painting and drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking and photography, and the provision for Design Technology allows pupils to work in a range of mediums. There is a large and busy Music School where over 300 individual music lessons are taught each week, and there are various ensembles and opportunities to perform in public. Pupils of all ages are involved in the Drama programme, in school productions, year group productions and in festivals and competition.
