Founded in 1827 Loretto, the oldest boarding school in Scotland, is one of Scotland’s leading independent co-educational schools, for both boarding and day school pupils. Program

Academic

A wide choice of GCSE and A Level subjects is backed up by outstanding teaching, small class sizes, dedicated personal tutors, and one-to-one support. These factors combine to inspire pupils of all abilities and Loretto is ranked in the top 10% in the U.K. for value-added at A Level, whilst over 95% of pupils achieve places at their chosen university. Pupils’ progress and well-being are monitored by regular subject-specific assessments and reports, reinforced by daily contact with tutors.

Boarding

Loretto is a 7-day-a-week boarding school and at the school’s heart are its 7 houses. All the houses have recently been refurbished to a high standard but they offer more than just accommodation; they are the centre of each pupil’s daily life – a real home, somewhere to take time out as well as work, where all pupils are free to be themselves and where relationships are natural and easy. Each house is overseen by a housemaster and housemistress, supported by dedicated, resident pastoral teams.

Sports

At Loretto team games are integrated into the pattern of the week so that all pupils benefit from the unique educational and social values that the experience of playing team sports provides. Facilities include hockey and rugby pitches, an all-weather Astro-turf pitch, a cutting edge indoor golf centre, a fitness centre, an athletics track, squash, tennis and netball courts and an indoor shooting range. Elite performers are supported by coaching clinics and an in-house strength and conditioning coach.

Creative arts

Loretto provides outstanding opportunities in Music, Drama and Art. The school benefits from excellent facilities, including its own recording studios (with live room), a radio station, art studios, a hi-tech theatre, a concert hall and newly refurbished dance & drama studio. There are several choirs and over 50 music and drama performances each year, along with an end of year art exhibition. Loretto is home to 15 Steinway pianos and is the first “all-Steinway” independent school in Europe.
