The broad curriculum offers 23 subjects at A Level and is taught by experienced teachers who create ‘high challenge – low threat’ learning environments and use a variety of techniques to bring learning to life. Students are asked to stretch themselves to an academic level 2 years ahead and are encouraged to always ask that extra question to develop and then share their knowledge. Added value performance at A Level is good whilst on average over a third of candidates achieve A*/A at A Level.

All students, whether boarders or day pupils, are members of one of the 8 boarding houses (4 for boys, 3 for girls and 1 co-ed house for years 7 & 8), which creates a cohesive, integrated community. Each house has a caring resident husband and wife team of houseparents who provide the main point of contact between school and home, and organise house activities and social events. They are ably supported by a team of compassionate matrons alongside resident and non-resident visiting tutors.

LWC’s sporting ethos is based on education, participation, contribution and support, and all pupils are given the opportunity to have fun, learn and compete. Facilities include an Astroturf, all-weather tennis/netball courts, a swimming pool, a climbing wall and a fitness suite, whilst the sports on offer include trampolining, canoeing & kayaking, cycling, horse riding, triathlon and golf. Former professional and elite amateur athletes add a competitive edge to the coaching team.

The well-equipped Art School offers open studio sessions and facilities for a wide range of disciplines, whilst the Prideaux Gallery offers a modern exhibition space. All aspects of theatre production can be learned and practiced in the 120 seat workshop theatre whilst ballet and street, modern and ballroom dance are taught in the purpose-built dance studio. Over 200 instrumental music lessons are delivered each week whilst numerous vocal and instrumental groups provide opportunities to perform.
