Glenalmond College

A diverse 26 subjects and the EPQ are offered at A Level, class sizes are small and all full-time teachers live on site, are ambitious for their pupils and focused on academic excellence. As house tutors, they meet their tutees 3 times a week, developing learning skills,and monitoring progress and pastoral needs. Facilities include a purpose-built science centre with 3 floors of labs opened in 2001. 62% of A Level results were A*/B in 2018 and, generally, half of leavers go to Russell Group universities.

80% of pupils are full-boarders and each of the 8 boarding houses is home to a ‘house family’ of older and younger pupils led by a resident housemaster/housemistress. Together with house tutors they really get to know the pupils in their care, supporting them academically and pastorally. The houses offer twin or single rooms, with some dormitory-style accommodation for younger pupils. All have lounges, games rooms, kitchens and prep rooms, and the food has received a Healthy Eating Plus Award.

Sport is encouraged as part of a healthy lifestyle and to develop leadership and team-building skills. There are many weekend fixtures in the major sports whilst the range of sports on offer includes cross-country running, skiing and sailing. Facilities include a golf course, a 25m swimming pool, an Olympic standard all-weather hockey pitch, 18 all-weather tennis courts, a new rugby/lacrosse pitch, indoor and outdoor shooting ranges, a climbing wall, a fitness suite and a dance studio.

The refurbished theatre stages 2 major productions a year along with interhouse festivals, whilst chamber groups, ensembles, choirs and the orchestra perform across a range of venues. The music school hosts 275 individual lessons a week, and boasts a recital room with a Yamaha concert grand, a sound-proofed live room and a music technology classroom. Art & design has facilities for a wide-range of disciplines in fine art, textiles and 3D design, as well as masterclasses from prominent artists.
