Overview

Fyling Hall is a proudly small school with a big heart set in 45 acres of woodland within the stunning North York Moors National Park and just 2km from the popular seaside village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Program

Academic

The School is non-selective, aiming to identify and develop pupils’ abilities through flexible study programmes tailored to the needs, aspirations and potential of each child. A traditional foundation of core A Level subjects is offered, giving pupils a sound basis for choosing a university course. Sixth Formers are assigned a personal tutor responsible for overseeing their academic progress, behaviour and personal wellbeing. Typically over half of candidates achieve A*/B at A Level .

Boarding

New boarders are assigned a ‘buddy’ for their first few weeks and strong relationships are quickly forged amongst the boarding community, creating a real sense of family. Boarding and day pupils are well integrated, and boarders can invite friends they make for weekend sleepovers. Outdoor activities ranging from surfing to pony-trekking make the most of the location, the theatre hosts film nights, and there are various games, clubs and societies, days out and a biannual trip to London.

Sports

Sport is integral to life at Fyling Hall and pupils have the opportunity to participate in all sports, including in fixtures against other schools. The facilities offer a spectacular rural setting for sport and outdoor activities, with a Sports Hall, extensive playing fields, horses/ponies and stabling, a full-size all-weather pitch and a grass tennis court. In recent years the school has produced England Rugby Union International, Jamie Noon, and England steeplechaser Rachael Bamford.

Creative arts

At Fyling Hall participation is an integral and essential element in nurturing an understanding and passion for the Arts. Facilities include the purpose-built 100 seat Barn theatre, the outdoor Rose Garden theatre, the Music Centre with recording studio and practice rooms and a new Art room, all of which are available to students both during and after school. The theatres play host to regular performances including the student-produced and eagerly anticipated annual talent show.
