Program

Academic

Brentwood follows the Diamond Model, so from 11-16 years, girls and boys are taught separately. Pupils work exceptionally hard, supported by highly professional and inspiring teachers, to achieve excellent results at both GCSE, A Level and in the IB Diploma. Year on year over 45% of candidates achieve A*/A at A Level and on average 8 students per year are offered places at Oxford or Cambridge, whilst over 80% of overall offers are from Russell Group universities.

Boarding

Full and weekly boarding is available for 13-18 year olds in comfortable boarding houses where experienced husband and wife teams ensure the best possible care for all boarders. The level of care in both houses was highly praised in a 2013 ISI Report on National Child Care standards. Boarders have access to school sports facilities 7 days a week, as well as opportunities to participate in inter-house competitions and other co-curricular activities.

Sports

A vast and exciting co-curricular programme enjoys national prominence, with pupils regularly achieving top sporting honours both nationally and internationally. U13 netballers won the 2016 National Schools’ Cup, the U15 water polo team are 2016 ESSA National Plate Champions and the swimmers won the 2016 Mid-Essex Relay Championships for the 10th year running. One U13 fencer represented England in a contest in Poland and the orienteering and equestrian clubs compete at the top level.

Creative arts

The study of Performing & Visual Arts at Brentwood aims to discover and harness a child’s creative side. Each department is very well resourced: The Hardy Amies Design Centre houses Art & Design and Food Technology, while music and drama devotees enjoy fully equipped rehearsal studios, practice rooms and a music technology suite with Sibelius composition software. Performance spaces include a 400-seater auditorium and a new informal performing arts space within the Bean Academic Centre.
